Donation FAQs

Have questions about making a donation before heading over to my fundraising page? Here are the FAQs straight from the source, The3Day.org. Read ‘em and donate!


1. If a participant drops out of the event, what happens to the donations that they have raised?
All donations submitted to the Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure are non-transferable and non-refundable. If a participant drops out of the event, their donations cannot be refunded nor can they be transferred to another participant. We hope donors will appreciate supporting Susan G. Komen for the Cure regardless of someone’s participation in the actual event. Net proceeds from the Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure™ are invested in breast cancer research and community programs.

2. Can I make a donation to a team?
No. You must select an individual team member to donate to, and cannot make a donation to the entire team. If you are making a donation of $2,300 or more, the team captain may ask us to divide that donation among team members. Please contact the team captain for details.

3. What is a donation payment plan?
If you are making a donation online, you can use a payment plan to make your donation in installments. Each installment must be $25 or more and cannot exceed four installments. Donations made via mail cannot be made in installments.

4. Can I give stock as a donation?
Yes. The Komen 3-Day for the Cure accepts donations of stock. Stock donations must be $500 or more in fair market value and publicly traded. For donations of stock with an active market, the fair market value is the average price between highest and lowest selling price on the valuation date. No fees are deducted from the calculation of fair market value. To make a donation of stock to the Komen 3-Day for the Cure please contact 800.996.3DAY (800.996.3329).

5. How does Susan G. Komen for the Cure® utilize the contributions?
Net proceeds from the Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure™ fund innovative global breast cancer research and local community programs supporting education, screening and treatment. Every major advance in the fight against breast cancer in the last 27 years has been impacted by a Susan G. Komen for the Cure® grant. 6. Where should I mail donation checks?
All donations must have a donation form attached and should be mailed to the address listed on the donation form, which is: Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure, P.O. Box 660843 Dallas, TX 75266-0843

7. Is it necessary to send a separate donation form for each donation?
Yes. In order for a donation to be processed properly it is necessary to send a separate completed donation form with each donation. Our bank will only process one check per donation form.

8. Who should I make my check out to?
Please make all checks payable to: Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure.

9. Can I send a money order or cashier’s check for a donation or registration fee?
Yes. We are happy to accept money orders or cashier’s checks for donations or registration fees.

10. How quickly can I expect a mailed donation to post to a participant’s fundraising account?
Please allow four weeks for any mailed donation (both check and credit card donations) to post. If a donation does not post after the four-week timeframe, please contact us at 800.996.3DAY.

11. Can I mail cash with a donation form?
No. We cannot accept cash donations.

12. Can the Komen 3-Day for the Cure bill a donor for a donation?
No. The 3-Day for the Cure cannot bill a donor for a donation. A check or credit card number must be sent in with the donation form.

13. How do I find a participant’s personal fundraising Web page?
Click on Donate, and search by their first or last name.

14. Why is the “Donate” search not finding a participant that I know has registered?
Try entering just the first few letters of the participant’s name to get more search results, or just the last name. If you have a problem locating a participant that you are sure has registered, please call us at 800.996.3DAY.

15. How quickly can I expect an online donation to post to a participant’s fundraising account?
Any donation made online should post immediately. If an online donation does not post within 24 hours, please contact us at 800.996.3DAY.

16. Are donations tax-deductible?
All monetary donations are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.

17. Can the Komen 3-Day for the Cure accept international donations?
Yes. The Komen 3-Day for the Cure can accept international donations online with a credit card. International donations cannot be accepted through any other method because of processing complications.

18. Do donations made to the Komen 3-Day for the Cure qualify for tax deductions in other countries?
Donations made to the Komen 3-Day for the Cure may not qualify for tax deductions in the donor’s home country. Please check with a tax professional for country-specific laws.

19. For international donations made online with a credit card, will the amount entered in the 3-Day for the Cure online donation form be in U.S. dollars?
Yes. For international donations made online with a credit card, the amount entered in the 3-Day for the Cure online donation form will be in U.S. dollars.

20. Do all donors who mail their donations receive a receipt?
Any donor who mailed their donation and provided an e-mail address will receive a receipt via e-mail once the donation has been processed. If you made your donation in installments, you will receive an e-mail receipt each time a monthly payment is processed. Those who donate $250 or more and do not provide an e-mail address will receive a copy of the receipt in the mail.

21. Do all donors who contribute online receive a receipt?
Yes, anyone who donates online, regardless of the amount, will receive a receipt if they supply a valid e-mail address. If you made your donation in installments, you will receive an e-mail receipt each time a monthly payment is processed. Those who donate $250 or more and do not provide an e-mail address will receive a copy of the receipt in the mail.

22. What is the Komen 3-Day for the Cure’s tax ID number (or EIN number)?
A tax ID number or EIN number identifies the Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure as a non-profit event. Many donors will request this number to validate their donation as tax-deductible. The tax ID number for the Komen 3-Day for the Cure is 75-1835298. Sorry, participants cannot use the EIN number to secure donated space or in-kind donations.

23. Can I get a 501(c)(3) letter?
The 501(c)(3) letter is proof that Susan G. Komen for the Cure is recognized as a non-profit organization by the federal government. Since the Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure is a project managed by Susan G. Komen for the Cure, this letter is also used as proof of the Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure’s non-profit status. Please call us at 800.996.3DAY if you need a copy of this letter. Sorry, participants cannot use the 501(c)(3) letter/number to secure donated space or in-kind donations.

24. Can I get a W-9 form?
The W-9 form is proof that Susan G. Komen for the Cure is recognized as a non-profit organization by the federal government. Since the Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure is a project managed by Susan G. Komen for the Cure, this form is also used as proof of the Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure’s non-profit status. Please call us if you need a copy of this letter. Sorry, participants cannot use the W-9 form to secure donated space or in-kind donations.

25. How do I add a dedication when I make a donation?
When you make a donation online, you can designate what you want to appear as your recognition name on the participant’s Honor Roll. This may be your name, or it could be something such as “From the whole Connor family” or “In memory of Aunt Cathy.” Please Note: Donors do not have the option to include a dedication when they mail in a donation.
